St. Anthony’s College, Kandy proved no match to the strong Trinity College outfit, going down 26-05 in the game played at Nittawela this evening.

Trinity’s Dodamwatta kicked off proceedings with a long kick to the left, which was immediately kicked out of the field by the Anthonians, keeping play away from their danger zone. The Trinitians played with urgency earning them the first penalty of the game, in which they went for touch close to the 22M mark.

Playing strong phases, Trinity College managed to retain the ball with them, until Dodamwatta analysed the gaps very well to score the opening try for Trinity College. Dodamwatta, assumed with the kicking duties for the evening had no trouble getting the conversion in. (SACK 00 – 07 TCK)

The 16th Minute saw Trinity’s Umer Faizer countering the play and creating phases, allowing them to work the back-line, eventually the outside centre Harsha Samarasinghe going over the line with ease. Dodamwatta this time failed to add the two points to the lead. (SACK 00 – 12 TCK)

The Eagles were not in control of the game, giving away several penalties. However, fly half Bawan Nishanth was successful in getting on to the scorebook, scoring the only try for the Anthonians, making use of an advantage earned by means of an infringement in the scrum. (SACK 05 – 12 TCK)

Close to the half time, Trinity’s Harsha Samarasinghe managed to sneak through the Anthonian defence scoring the 3rd try for the Trinitians. This time it was Trinity’s No.15 Muthunayaka who added the extra two points, extending the lead even further. (SACK 05 – 19 TCK)

Half Time: SACK 05 – 19 TCK

Minutes into the second half, Trinity’s Ruvishan managed to go over the line, scoring the bonus point try for Trinity College. Dodamwatta was successful with his kicking, putting the Trinitians on top. (SACK 05 – 26 TCK)

Trinity College in the 2nd half had problems coming their way, with Thevin Karunanayaka earning a yellow card for a late charge, followed by Kujana Kulathunga who was sent to the sin bin because of his undisciplined play, leaving Trinity College with only 13 players on the field. Nevertheless, the Anthoninas failed to capitalize on this, as the Trinity were too strong in their defence successfully keeping the Anthonians at bay.

The Trinitians were rushing in defence, resulting in another yellow card for Trinity with their No. 4 Rahul being sent out to the bin because of a high tackle. However, the Anthonians failed to make an impact eventually losing Umar Faizer to the sin bin as a result of an infringement. Close to the end of play the 4th Trinitian, Bawantha Dharmapala earned a Yellow Card for a late charge.

Despite losing players to the sin bin, the Trinitian defence proved to be too strong to the Eagles, ending the game with only one try for St. Anthony’s College.
