Thurstan and Isipathana big match encounter will be celebrating its 50th year when the two skippers walk out for their traditional encounter on March 22nd and 23rd at the SSC grounds.
The Golden Jubilee will be held with the presence of its most distinguished Thurstanite his Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakshe who is tipped to grace the occasion . This was revealed in a media briefing which conducted this evening at BRC.
The annual cricket encounter which dates back to 1964 commenced as a small inter-school match. Over these 49 years it has developed into a magnificent event where both schools gather annually to celebrate their rich heritage of cricket.
Over the last 7 years, this battle heralds the ‘big match’ season for Sri Lanka. However, this time around the encounter will end the season with the matches pushed to end of March giving old boys ample opportunity to make plans and head over from overseas to take join the event.
The media conference was held with the presence of Mr. Nihal Yapa Principal Thurstan College, Mr. A.M.A.A.C Perera Principal Isipathana College, Mr. Upul Gunarathne Chairman Isipathana Cricket, Mr. Priya Paranawithana Chairman Thurstan Cricket.
