S. Thomas’ Water polo is ready to fight for their alma-mater as they face off against archrivals Royal College at the annual Roy-Tho encounter for the 29th Dr. R. L. Hayman, on the 1st and the 8th of October 2022 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.
Bringing back the missing excitement and colours of blue and black flags after 2 long years to Suga, STC is ready add on to their overall tally of 16 wins with their last coming in 2016 (2017 ended in a draw). Royal did go back to back in 2018 and 2019, so the Thomians will want to get back into the challenge and avoid a hattrick of defeats.
S. Thomas’ College senior team captain 19-year-old, Dirhean Dias, who plays left wing position for his team, speaking to ThePapare said,
“Definitely bringing the Dr. R. L. Hayman trophy home to Mount Lavinia is our goal. We lost it for 2 years and then we didn’t play for it for another 2, so this year we owe it to those teams to give it our all and leave everything in the pool.”
Head Coach of the unit is Dulan Peiris, who has the services of Sachitha Jayathilake as Assistant Coach.
