Thomians conceded first innings

S. Thomas’ conceded first innings win to hosts St. Benedict’s in their rain affected U-19 cricket fixture concluded at Kotahena yesterday.

Resuming from their overnight score of 66 for two, Thomians managed another 74 runs this morning as they were bowled out for 140 with Dilan Angelo taking four for 31 runs. In reply Bens made 143 for nine declared where Mahela Jayalath hit a masterful 67. At stumps St. Thomas’ were 50 for three in 16 overs.

Backed by a brilliant bowling effort from skipper Devind Pathmanathan, Royal College took a significant lead over host Nalanda in their U-19 cricket match began at Nalanda grounds yesterday. 

Left arm spinner Devinda claimed 5 for 17 as Nalanda were bowled out for 79 in reply to Royal’s 145 in the first innings. Royal batting first were strongly tested by hosts pace and spin attack, as they were bowled out in the 39th over. Pramud Hettiwatte and Kusal Dias were the pick of the bowlers capturing four and three wickets respectively. 

At stumps, Royal were none for none in two overs in their second essay.
