Thilanga Sumathipala elected Sri Lanka Cricket President

Deputy Speaker of Parliment, Thilanga Sumathipala has been elected as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket with 88 votes at the Sports Ministry premises short while ago.

Thilanga’s main rival Nishantha Ranatunga has got only 56 votes.

Mohan De Silva has won the Secretary post uncontested with his competitor Hirantha Perera opting out of the race at the last moment.

Former President Jayantha Dharmadasa (108 votes) and K Mathivanan (90 votes) has been elected as the two Vice-Presidents while 1996 World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga (80 votes) has not been elected.

Shammi Silva has been elected as the Treasurer with 115 votes. Ravin Wickramaratne completed the landslide victory for Sumathipala camp as he became the Assistant Secretary with 113 votes.

All these personal were elected out of 145 votes from the stakeholders.
