Thenuka’s ton pinnacles Vesters
A Stunning knock of 115 plus 3 wickets to Thenuka Liyanage helped St.Sylvester’s College to trounce Dharmaraja College Kandy on 1st innings at another game of the Division one ‘Singer Cup’ tournament that concluded at Lakeview grounds today.
Dharmaraja won the toss and invited Vesters to take the first lease of the wicket. Besides Thenuka’s century, Muditha Hashan chipped in with a useful 56 runs to pile up a decent total of 286 on the board. Rukmal Dissanayake captured 3wickets for the hosts.
Rajans’ 1st innings batting card showed disappointing figures as they were rattled for cheap 109. At one stage the hosts were tottering at 6 for 40 when Shehan Witharana built up a quiet inning of 47 to reach the total. The centurion Thenuka Liyanage and Manuja Perera throttled the batting line-up claiming 3 scalps apiece.
Rajans, in their follow-on notched-up 150 runs for the loss of 7; 27 still behind Vesters’s 1st innings total when the match came to a halt on day two.
