The Murali-Vaas Trophy

A game played in honour of Sri Lanka’s greatest bowling pair who silently ran through many a batting line up,

 

the Murali-Vaas trophy between St Anthony’s College Kandy which was the legendary spinner Muttiah Muralidaran’s alma mater and St Joeseph’s College where Chaminda Vaas hailed from, commenced at Darley Road today.  

St. Anthony’s College who won the toss elected to bat first and scored 129 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 56.5 overs. Joesphian Muditha Weerasinghe destroyed the opposition with a marvelous display of bowling scalping 5 wickets for just 29 runs.

Viraj Deepal, Antonians leading scorer for the current season was able to score only 35 runs while Nimesha Gunasinghe and Sachin Bulathsinghela contributed 24 and 23 runs to drag themselves to 129.
