The Captain and Deputy propels Royal to first innings honours

Scintillating tons by Royal College skipper Geeshath Panditharathna and Thiran Dhanapala throttled them to a first innings win against St. Sebastian’s College in their U 19 fixture played at Moratuwa.

Winning the toss, the home team decided to bat first before they made a formidable 253. Tharusha Fernando shined with 66 while Sandaruwan Fernando made 43. For Royal, it was Lasith Embuldeniya who yet again unleashed his nifty spin grabbing 7 for 106.

In an overnight score which stood at 34/2, Royal lost an early wicket at the beginning of Day 2 but in came Geeshath and Thiran who took the responsibility to build the innings. While the captain scored a brilliant knock of an unbeaten 150, Dhanapala braced in with 115 to taking Royal to 371/9.

At close, the St Sebastain’s second innings stood at 91/3.
