Tatamis at World Games: a ticking time bomb

Top Karatekas worldwide show top form in the build up to the World Games 2017 which will be opening today in Wroclaw, Poland.

Training has not been limited to their own soil where most of the top Karatekas have gone the extra mile to participate at training camps held around the world by many star coaches who have made their mark in the arena.

Most notably, the Asian Karatekas will be in top form with the recent conclusion of the Asian Karate Championship with Iran acing the junior segment of the championship and Japan clinching the much looked forward to Continental Title recording their 2nd consecutive win after the break in 2013 where Iran stole it away from the Sakura who up until then have reigned successively since 2007. The World Games Tatamis will see big names from Asia such as Ryo Kyuna of Japan and Amir Mehdizadeh and Sajad Ganjzadeh of Iran. Also, rising stars such as Sadridin Saymatov of Uzbekistan and Tareg Hamidi of Saudi Arabia who clinched a WKF Karate 1 Youth Title, will be eyeing to make their presence felt.

Furthermore, Brazilian Douglas Brose has been busy as an instructor at the WKF Youth Camp in Umag, Croatia and conducting seminars in Sao Polo before travelling to Wroclaw. This Brazilian star is a two-time World Champion and has seen consistent top rankings in the WKF ranks.

Damian Quintero of Spain too is another man to watch out for as he has clinched 3 golds and 1 silver during this season in the world arena and is the current leader of the event rankings.

France’s Sandy Scordo and Emilie Thouy too have been following intense training schedules as Sandy holds the current gold medal in her favourite event Kata from the World Combat Games in 2013 and Emilie Thuoy finding her form as a former world champion.

Alexandra Recchia of France is also in good form having clinched the gold in the -50kg Female Kumite at the Karate 1 Premier League held in Rotterdam in March.

Venezuela’s Antonio Diaz, Netherlands’ Geoffrey Berens and USA’s Sakura Kokumai have been busy participating in training camps in the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong and Japan respectively.

With much fanfare created by the Asian Championship, this world event will undoubtedly be the center of focus of the global Karate fraternity as the tatamis at Wroclaw will see participation of hundreds of competitors from 44 countries. The major internationals such as Karate 1 Leagues have built much hype in the run up to the World games Karate segment. It is only a matter of moments from now on until the Wroclaw becomes action packed.
