Tamil Union in huge victory

Opener Pabasara Waduge hit a career best 120 while skipper Jeevan Mendis  put on an all round effort to lead Tamil Union to a massive 196-run victory over Chilaw Marians in their Premier limited overs cricket match played at the P Sara Oval yesterday.

Tamil Union who have been below par with the bat right through the season found some form with the bat and ball to record only their second win in the season against a mediocre side.

Waduge scored his first ton in the premier limited overs matches to ensure a big opening stand for Tamil Union. The opener hit 17 fours for his 120 runs in 122 balls and built a century stand (107) for the first wicket with Ashen Silva who scored 35. Waduge then added 77 runs for the second wicket with Rumesh Buddika.

Mendis, who has been a pale shadow of himself right through joined the party scoring a rapid 33 from 19 balls which incidentally was the highest score for him in the season. Wicket keeper Denuwan Rajakaruna scored 30 from 19 balls to help Tamil Union post 300 runs.

Chilaw Marians were skittled out for just 104 runs in 33.3 overs as Mendis returned 5 for 12 in 9.3 overs – his best figures in domestic limited overs matches.
