Suzuki to sponsor 2017 World Judo Championship

The World Judo Championship is scheduled to take place starting off on the 28th of August to the 3rd of September which will be held in Budapest, Hungary at the famous Papp Laszlo Budapest Sports Arena.

Dr. Laszlo Toth, President of the Hungarian Judo Association speaking at a press conference held by the Hungarian Judo Association at which the head table comprised of Dr. Toth himself; Yoshinobu Abe – CEO of Suzuki, Hungary; Dr. Antal Kovacs – Vice President of the Hungarian Judo Association and Tamas Zahonyi – Marketing Leader of the World Judo Championship, announced that the Hungarian branch of the Suzuki company will be the main sponsor of the 2017 World Judo Championship, which according to Dr. Toth, has never seen any corporate body coming forward to provide sponsorship of such a magnitude. Furthermore, as a part of the sponsorship agreement between Suzuki Motors, Hungary and the Hungary Judo Association, the CEO of Suzuki, Hungary Yoshinobu Abe, awarded seven Hungarian National Judo Players with seven brand new Suzuki vehicles to make their preparations for the World Judo Championship even more convenient and efficient.

The philosophy of our company and our culture is very similar in nature to that of which Judo represents: concentration, continuous learning, persistence, preparedness and honesty in competition. On the imaginary tatami, these put the Hungarian Suzuki on top over other competition as the most successful car factory in Hungary. I honestly hope we can help Hungarian national judoka by making their preparations easier with the awarded Suzukis.”

It is undoubted that the World Judo Championship this year will receive substantial media attention from around the world as Vladimir Putin the incumbent President of the Russian Federation is included in the list of invitees as a special guest along with the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. The Russian President is known for his passion for Judo both as a follower and practitioner. He is the Honorary President of the European Judo Union as well as the International Judo Federation and was recently awarded the 8th Dan of the Black Belt.

Another highlight of this event will be the fact that the team events of the World Championship will be held according to the official format that may be used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Judo event.

In addition to this, the President of the International Judo Federation Marius Vizer announced that the total prize money to be awarded to the victorious judoka at the World Championship will be one million dollars.

With the hype build up to the worlds heating up day by day, the Japanese judoka have gained a substantial space of the spotlight on them as their team will include 12 world champions and medalists in the likes of Naoisha Takato, Ryonosuke Haga, Ami Kondo and Takanori Nagaese. World Champion Mami Umeki and Olympic Silver medalist Hisayoshi Harasawa too will be flying the Japanese flag on their shoulders although three Olympic Gold medalists who won at the Rio Olympics – Shohei Ono, Mashu Baker and Haruka Tachimoto will be missing the World Championship.
