England will miss the services of all-rounder Ben Stokes in the one-off ODI against Scotland as well as in the “first part” of the five-match series against Australia due to a tear in the left hamstring, an ECB statement said.

Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan has been added to the squad for the Scotland game on June 10 in Edinburgh, while Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings has been drafted into the squad for the Australia series, which gets underway at the Oval on June 13.

Stokes picked up the injury while fielding during a training session on May 30, ahead of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at Headingley, and did not bowl thereafter. He was subsequently ruled out of the match and his replacement, Sam Curran, was handed his Test debut.

ECB stated that the Durham star is due to be assessed later this week, after which the exact extent of his absence from the Australia series can be ascertained.

“Stokes will continue his rehabilitation programme and return to his county side Durham on Monday (June 4),” it added.
