Stafford takes big match win

The big match of the Asian International School vs Stafford International was worked of yesterday at the NCC grounds.

Asian International won the toss and put Stafford International to bat.  But the decision to field first backfired on them when Stafford notched up 148 for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 40 overs.  This was largely due to the contribution of Heshan Polonowita  and Dinul Wijetunga who both scored 24 each to pile on the runs for Stafford.

Kapilash Nadaraja for AIS took 4 wickets to put the brakes on the SIS scoring.  AIS fielding was poor with many dropped catches at the beginning and few extras which contributed to Stafford getting to 148.

In return Asian International could not keep up the pace and with Stafford’s Charana Cumaratunga bowling beautifully for his 5 wicket haul, they collapsed to 129 all out.  Birendra de Seram offered the only resistance with a fighting 40 runs.

Man of the match was Charana Cumaratunga for his 5 wickets and Birendra de Seram took the award for best batsman.
