St. Sylvester’s win as St. Mary’s and St. Servatius’ record first innings wins

St. Sylvester’s College Kandy managed to record an outright win against Vidyartha in the big match up in Kandy, as St. Mary’s and St. Servatius’ recorded first innings victories in Matara and Kegalle.

St. Mary’s College vs Kegalu Vidyalaya

Restarting things where they left off, Kegalu Vidyalaya was bundled out for just 100 runs. St. Mary’s score was 75/7 in their second innings as they declared and set a target for Kegalu Vidyalaya. In reply, Kegalu Vidyalaya managed to accumulate 70 runs for 6 wickets as the game ended in a draw.

Kasun Banuka managed to get 59 runs in 157 balls in the first innings. He batted sensibly, keeping the wickets in tact from one end. Harsha Amarasinghe and Chamikara Liyanage picked up 5 wickets and 3 wickets each to dampen Kegalu Vidyalaya’s hopes of a first innings victory. The overnight score for Kegalu Vidyalaya was 14/1.

St. Thomas’ College Matara vs St. Servatius’ College Matara

After having to bat first, the Thomians accumulated a very modest 132 runs for the fall of their 10 wickets. Harindu Jayasekara stroked his way to a 50, batting brilliantly under the circumstances.

After been asked to bat first, Vidyartha College were bundled out cheaply for just 83 runs in their big match against St. Sylvester’s. Shashika Basnayake picked up 5 wickets for just 21 runs and he was supported by Akhila Wickramasinghe picking up 3 for 21 runs.

In reply, St. Sylvesters amassed 167 runs for the loss of four wickets. Maleesha Silva scored a crisp 56 runs, while Charuka Ayeshan remained unbeaten at 42. They declared on their overnight score and asked Vidyartha to bat again; however Vidyartha were yet again bundled out for 123 runs. Isuru Gunasekara claimed 6 wickets for just 40 runs. St. Sylvester’s chased down the target of 37 with just 3 wickets down.
