St. Peter’s College Centenary International U-20 Rugby 7s 2023

The St. Peter’s College Centenary International U-20 Rugby 7’s 2023 kicked off with the hosts cruising to a comfortable win over Thurstan College 29-0.

The tournament comprises 6 international teams from 4 different countries – Australia, Dubai, Malaysia & Bahrain. UTS Australia seemed to be a very good and strong unit as they went on to win their opening game of the Tournament with a demanding win over the Zahirans with a half-century win. Gordon Rugby from Sydney, Australia kicked off their campaign with a closely contested game over Lumbini College, where the side from Sydney won the game 17-05.

The hot and humid weather condition was the real test for the international teams as the sun was beating down at Bambalapitiya. When the games were going well into the afternoon hours, the foreign teams found it difficult to adjust to the conditions.

The game to watch out prior to the tournament was the one where the hosts, St. Peter’s College, took on UTS Australia. The home side did justice to their Double Champions Tag as they beat the more favoured UTS Australia side 24-05.

Wesley College and D. S. Senanayake College battled out an exciting draw as they ended their game 12 points aside as the first drawn match in the tournament. Then the game between Gordon Rugby and Dubai College B ended in the second drawn game of the tournament where both the sides ended with 07 points aside.

The Game of Day 01 would be the game between Negri Sru from Malaysia and the school from the Hill Capital – Vidyartha College – where the tigers came from behind from 26-05 to win the game 31-26 with a brilliant comeback in the 2nd Half of the match.
