St. Peter’s College got off to a flying start in the Dialog School’s Rugby League, brushing aside Mahanama College in a commanding 67 – 00 victory at the St. Peter’s College Grounds on 24th April 2026.
The start of the game was delayed due to a clash in jersey colours. With the home team opting to sport their 2nd XV jersey instead, the game was finally allowed to get underway.
It took the Peterites just three minutes to open the scoring through Rashwin Sabar, who pierced the defence thanks to some slick hands from the backs. Ashok Krishan converted. (SPC 07 – 00 MC)

The visitors then enjoyed their only good spell of possession and territory, but failed to breach the Peterite defence due to their ill discipline. The hosts then added two tries in quick succession – first through Hashara Madugasge and the next from the restart after a lovely kick pass found Sabar in space. (SPC 21 – 00 MC)
The Bamba Brigade secured the bonus point in the 22nd minute through Nethshan Manthusha, who finished off a strong move started by the forwards with some lovely footwork. (SPC 26 – 00 MC)

Another try was added five minutes later after some quick thinking by Jamal Wahab to take the quick tap off a penalty to put Senuth Dinsara in acres of space, he found an inside ball to Wahab to finish off the move. Madugasge converted. (SPC 33 – 00)
Rajith Geon then started causing problems for the Mahanama defence as he opened up plenty of space on the left wing that allowed the home team to run in two further scores before lemons. Manthusha and Shiras Perera were the beneficiaries as they ran some lovely supporting lines.
Half Time – St. Peter’s College 45 (7T, 5C) – 00 Mahanama College
The second half was a lot slower in comparison, as the Peterites took their foot off the gas. Ten minutes passed before they opened the scoring through Captain Shenuka Perera, who dove over after a textbook No.8 break off the back of a 5 metre scrum.
More brilliant work by the Skipper helped his team add their ninth score. This time he drew in the defence to send Madugasge on his way. (SPC 55 – 00 MC)

With the final move of the game, the home side used the width of the field to good effect to add another score, after some quick hands found Madugasge in space on the left wing to go over for his hat-trick. Geon added the only conversion of the second half.
