Peter’s growing in confidence as the season goes into its latter stages

St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya went head to head with St Sebastian College Moratuwa today at R. Premadasa Stadium today. St Sebastian won the toss and elected to bat first. It was slow going from the start as the strong spin bowling attack of St. Peter’s kept pushing hard at the batsmen. The boys from Moratuwa fought hard against the in form spinners of St. Peter’s. After battling hard for just over 100 overs they were finally bowled out for 222 runs. With the bat Mishen Silva missed out on a century as he was dismissed for 98 runs. It was Thaneesha Weerakoon who was yet again the star with the ball for the Peterites. He finished with figures of 5 for 53  bagging his second fifer for this season. Left arm paceman Manelka Silva took 2 wickets for 41 runs. Match was heading towards a draw since St Sebastian College batted the whole of first day and some part of the second day as well.

Peterites came onto bat in the first session of day 2. Sebs were up on the money from ball one. Their bowling attack was strong and accurate which made run making really hard for St Peter’s. Top order crumbled as there was only one successful batsman, Hashan Wanasekara who scored a valuable 47 runs. St. Peter’s were struggling at 127 for 7 wickets when their captain, Chandula Jayamanna came onto the crease. After failing in all matches Chandula decided to come down the order and try to gain some form. It finally worked out in his favor as he scored a brilliant 72 runs under pressure. Batting alongside Vinu mohotti who scored 66 runs in a quick succession which helped Peterites to get out of the trouble. With the ball for St Sebastian Pramesh Fernando took 4 wickets for 49 runs and Shashika Fernando bagged 2 wickets for 54 runs. 

It was real tester for St Peter’s College but they finally managed to save them selves and secure first innings points from this match.
