St.Patrick’s maul St.Peter’s in their own back yard

St.Peter’s College were hammered in their own back yard by St.Patrick’s College by 6 goals to 1 in the Kotmale Chox  U19 Schools Football Championship group D encounter worked off at St.Peter’s grounds.

The visitors started off with a lot of purpose as they spread the ball to either flanks from the word go as they wanted to seize the game by scruff of the neck.

Their early pressure paid off as they managed to breach the Peterite defense in the 11th minute when a poorly cleared corner was volleyed home by A.P.Anroot.

Despite taking the early lead the visitors showed no signs of fatigue as they pressed for a second as the hosts were demoralized by the early set back.

The persistent St.Patrick’s lads were richly rewarded on the when D.H.Hains was sent through on the right behind the sleeping Pete defense; he made no mistake in slotting the ball past the advancing keeper in the 23rd minute.

Despite going behind the hosts showed a bit of fight as they slowly started to play themselves in midfield. They managed to find themselves a much need a breakthrough as Shabeer Razooniya found the head of his skipper Johan Wickramasinghe who made no mistake in sending the ball home.

However their joy was short lived as the Jaffna lads managed to dominate proceedings from there on in, yet weren’t able to find a decisive third to possibly put the game to bed.

The second half started off just as the first ended with St.Patrick’s enjoyed the majority of the opportunities with the Peterites left defending in their own half.

The hosts went to pile on the misery adding an impressive four goals to their tally in the 50th, 58th, 84th and 88th minutes as S.Abeeshan got on the score sheet along with D.H.Hains and R.Shanthan scoring braces respectively.

The hosts were left with little to ponder as their star striker Shabeer Razooniya was left stranded as his midfielders were unable to find him with a telling pass for him to make amends.

Shabeer along with the rest of the front men had to be content with long range efforts throughout the half.

The final whistle put the hosts out of their misery as the last quarter of the game was plagued with fatigued for them, the lads from Jaffna showed no signs of tiring with their front men motoring along throughout the 90 minutes.

D.H.Hains was a standout among many resurgent St.Patrick’s players as he managed to trouble the Petes defense throughout the game running the channels and his clinical finishing when the opportunity presented itself.
