St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena and Wesley College, Colombo announced the launch of the Cartman Cup and Luke Shield, an annual First XI Cricket Encounter between both schools.

The teams first met on a cricket pitch back in 1896 and the revamping of this encounter is aimed at celebrating this 125 year legacy. The two schools have rich cricketing history and have produced some outstanding cricketers for Sri Lanka.

Ranjith Fernando, Ranjan Goonethilaka and Sunil Fernando are few names from the Kotahena school who impressed in national and international fronts.

Greats of Ceylonese Cricket like Mahathevan Sathasivam to stalwarts from recent past, Farveez Maharoof, there are a large host of cricketers who graced the greens at Campbell Park and went on to become huge figures in Sri Lankan cricket.

This year, the two-day encounter for the Cartman Cup, named in honour of Rev. James Cartman, a former Principal of Wesley College, will be played on the 23rd and 24th of April 2021 at St. Benedict’s College Grounds, while the one-day encounter for the Luke Shield, named in honour of Rev. Bro. Luke Gregory FSC, a former Director of St. Benedict’s College, will be played on the 06th of May 2021 at P. Saravanamuttu Stadium (P. Sara Oval).

Both matches will be organized and hosted by the Bens-Wesley Joint Committee, along with the patronage of both schools.
