The ongoing U-18 all Island Rugby championship has moved to the semi-final stage with the games between St Anthony’s vs Isispathana and Kingswood vs Zahira to take place on the 10th September at the Ananda College Grounds.

Isipathana College, who received a bye in the quarterfinals, will meet St. Anthony’s College, who overcame St. Joseph’s College 38- 17 in the quarterfinal.  The Anthonians were impressive in their game against the Josephians as they scored three tries in each half with some good running rugby. The Josephians countered with two tries in the first half but were outclassed by the gritty Anthonian defense and they eventually conceded 3 more tries in the second half. It will be an interesting tussle between Isipathana College, the defending champions of the tournament, and the St. Anthony’s College, who have shown improvement in every game they’ve played.

Zahira College, who also received a bye in the quarterfinal, will lock horns with Kingswood College, who demolished a spirited St. John’s College Nugegoda, in the quarter final. The boys from the hill capital ran in 13 unanswered tries to rack up a mammoth 75-00 victory over their counterparts with the mismatch in the teams clearly showing as the quarterfinal progressed. Zahira College, who has been rejuvenated after being promoted into the top division at the end of the last season, will have to overcome the Kingswoodian outfit who will be determined make amends after being demoted at the end of the last season.

The semi-finals of all the categories will take place on the 10th of September with Shield semi-finals being followed by the Bowl and Cup segment respectively.
