Moratu Maha Vidyalaya produced a strong and composed batting response on Day 2 of the 74th Battle of the Golds, as the contest remained evenly poised at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa.

Resuming their first innings at a commanding 326 for 3, Sri Sumangala College continued their dominance and went on to declare at 408 for 7, building a formidable total to put pressure on their traditional rivals.

The highlight of their innings was a magnificent knock from Neksha Iddamalgoda, who converted his overnight unbeaten 84 into a well-crafted century. Iddamalgoda struck 136 runs off 124 deliveries, including 10 fours and 6 sixes, anchoring the innings with an aggressive yet controlled approach.

In response, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya produced a determined and highly effective batting display to stay in the contest. By the close of play on Day 2, they had reached 237 for 2, with both openers playing pivotal roles in building a massive foundation.

The opening pair of Oshada Jayawickrama and Deneth Sithumina dominated the Sri Sumangala bowling attack, stitching together a mammoth 222-run partnership for the first wicket.

Jayawickrama led the charge with a composed 117 off 224 balls, decorated with 12 boundaries and 5 sixes, while Sithumina matched him stroke for stroke, scoring 105 off 193 deliveries, which included 11 fours and a six.
