The tournament, which was to be held from the 20th – 23rd of February, was a crucial part of Sri Lanka’s plans ahead of the Asian Netball Championship, scheduled to be held in South Korea this July. The Hong Kong Netball Association was compelled to make the decision to cancel the event due to the closure of all sporting facilities by the Hong Kong SAR Government as a result of the outbreak of the Corona Virus.

Thailand and Kenya were the other two teams set to participate in the tournament, alongside Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. Kenya also played a quadrangular tournament in Sri Lanka last year, when the Lankan lasses were preparing for the Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England and would have provided the ideal preparation for the islanders with their quick playing style.
