Sri Lankan Development team’s struggles continue in South Africa

University Sports South Africa XI dominated proceeding as they piled on the pressure on the visiting Sri Lankan Development team.

Winning the toss and batting the University Sports South Africa XI did not get off to the start they would have hoped for losing opener Janneman Malan for 3 runs in the 4th over.

The University Sports South Africa XI settled down and got a hold of the game scoring 248 for 7 in 50 overs. Zubayr Hamza top scored for the University XI with 67 while Thomas Kaber made 38 from 64 balls.

Kasun Madushanka, Amila Aponso, Priyamal Perera, Keshan Wijerathne and Anuk Fernando all picked up 1 wicket a piece for the Sri Lankan Development team.

Chasing 249 the Lankan Development team got off to a pleasing start but wickets at regular intervals hampered their progress. Following Rumesh Buddhika’s 53 the team capitulated and was eventually dismissed for just 184 in 42.1 overs.

Opener Sandun Weerakkody managed 37 for the Lankan Development side while Sadeera Samarawickreme managed 28 hard fought runs off 88 balls.

Opening bowler Keith Dudgeon picked 3 for 27 while Delano Potgieter bagged 2 for 22 for the University XI.
