Mahika Gaur and Lauren Filer made impressive ODI debuts as they took three wickets each to help England bowl Sri Lanka out for 106 in just 31 overs.

17-year-old Gaur was handed her maiden ODI cap and picked up 3 for 26, including the prize dismissal of captain Chamari Attapaththu for just 10.

Filer then got in on the act, snaring two wickets in two balls and three in total for figures of 3 for 27.

England’s bowlers were able to exploit Sri Lanka’s weakness against pace and spin, and the tourists were never in the game after being reduced to 26 for 2 inside the first five overs.

Gaur dismissed Athapaththu with a beauty which angled in then moved away to clatter into the top of her off stump, and she then bowled Sanjeewani with a full inswinger that smashed middle stump.

Sarah Glenn then trapped Vishmi Gunaratne lbw and Filer took two wickets in two balls, dismissing Hasini Perera and Kavisha Dilhari to push Sri Lanka further into trouble.

Amy Jones took five catches, including those to remove Harshitha Samarawickrama and Oshadi Ranasinghe, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for their lowest ODI total since 2017.

In reply, England cruised to victory with 32 overs to spare. Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb put on 61 for the first wicket before Beaumont was dismissed for 32.

Lamb was gone in the next over, but Maia Bouchier, also on debut, made an unbeaten 21 to see England home.
