The second Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies ended in a draw on the fifth and final day at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on 7th July, with the hosts clinching the two-match Test series 1-0.
Resuming the final day on 92 for 2, Sri Lanka relied on the experienced pair of Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis to build on their overnight stand. Chandimal, who was unbeaten on 40 at stumps on Day 4, continued his fluent innings to register his 36th Test half-century.
The right-hander struck 71 runs from 107 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes, while Kamindu Mendis contributed a valuable 44 runs. Sri Lanka adopted an aggressive approach throughout the morning session, scoring at a healthy rate in an attempt to set up a result.
The visitors eventually declared their second innings at 251 for 9, leaving West Indies a target of 302 runs from the remaining 63 overs.
The batting-friendly nature of the surface continued to dominate proceedings, with most of Sri Lanka’s wickets falling due to attacking strokeplay rather than any significant assistance for the bowlers.
In reply, the West Indies openers negotiated the chase comfortably and reached 109 without loss before the match ended in a draw.
