Sri Lanka’s openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Oshada Fernando hit half-centuries as the visitors made a strong response with the bat (143/2) fto Bangladesh’s 365 on day two of the 2nd Test.
Karunaratne and Fernando provided a solid partnership for the first wicket, putting on 95 runs in 25.5 overs. Fernando notched up his 5th Test half-ton scoring 57 runs off 91 balls with 8 fours and 1 six.
Karunaratne and number 3 batter Kusal Mendis then built a 44-run stand for the second wicket but the latter was dismissed at the stroke of stumps for 11 runs, bringing some respite for the hosts. At the other end, Karunaratne looked very solid with the bat and remained unbeaten on 70 runs at the close of play on day two.
Earlier today, Sri Lanka finally managed to dismiss the hosts for 365 runs in the first innings as seamers Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando bowled brilliantly to take 4 wickets in the morning session.
Mushfiqur Rahim top scored for the hosts with an unbeaten 175 runs while Liton Das made 14, the duo adding 272 for the 6th wicket. Rajitha (5/64) picked up his maiden 5-wicket haul in Tests while Fernando (4/93) registered his career best figures in the longest format.
