It’s the U14 Boys’ turn to shine, as a pulsating bunch ready themselves for the 14/U World Junior Tennis Championship 2019, scheduled to be hosted in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia from the 1st – 6th April.
Wenuka Kithnula, Vichinthya Nilaweera and Zaidh Zihar have earned themselves spots in the U14 National team for the year and will compete at the final qualifying round at the World Junior Team Championship, with renowned National and International veteran, Dineshkanthan Thangarajah as their non-playing captain and coach. The reserve and 4th player in the team is Hasal Ahangama.
Last year, Sri Lanka did well to finish 3rd in the pre-qualifying rounds which were held in Sri Lanka and qualified for the final qualifying rounds. This year, the experience from Wenuka Kithnula along with fresh legs of Zaidh Zihar and Vichinthya Nilaweera, the youngsters are determined to finish among the top 5 and possibly make it through to the World Group, something Sri Lanka haven’t been able to achieve in their many years in the competition.
