In a significant development for Sri Lankan sports, an extraordinary gazette was issued on August 25, temporarily suspending the registration of three national sports associations: Athletics, Table Tennis, and Gymnastics.
The decision, enacted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, comes under the authority of Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, as amended.

The gazette outlines that the suspension will remain in effect until the associations comply with the Sports Law, particularly by amending their constitutions and conducting elections for office bearers at their respective annual general meetings.
To ensure continuity and proper administration during this period, the Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been appointed as the competent authority to oversee the operations of the three suspended associations.
