Gihan Suwaris into the finals of the Sri Lanka Federation Open Squash Championship 2015 after a hard-fought battle against Shamil Wakeel. 

With an easy win Gihan was able to grab the first game from Shamil and 16 years old school boy from DS Senanayake Vidyala with his extremely aggressive powerful shots did not make it easy for the well experienced Gihan to win the second game. Suwaris calmly controlled game with his experience and took control over the match in the third game and forth game by reducing unforced errors and limiting his variety of shots to only basics.

Top seed Ravindu Laksiri made his way to the finals with an easy win against Adnan Abdulhusein in straight games.

Gihan Suwaris the most experienced player of the current national pool will play against young rank no.1 & top seed Ravindu Laksiri in the Men’s Open finals on Saturday.

In the women’s semi-final Fathom Issadeen upset rank no.2 and bottom seed Naduni Gunawardena with the match score of 3 to 1 games. Young Fathoum was attacking Naduni from the first game onwards with winners and powerful shots in the front court. However the experienced Naduni Gunawardena grabbed the second game with the score of 11/9. Fathoum’s participation in the last few international tournaments have helped her to improve the game to take on well experienced senior players.

Top seed Mihiliya Methsarani had an easy win against Sanduni Gunawardena in straights with the scores of 11/6, 11/4 and 11/5.

Mihiliya Methsarani will face young Fathoum Issadeen in the women’s open finals on Saturday at Tamil Union Squash Complex.
