Windies see off tense final overs to seal series

The West Indies overcame a few stutters to close out their 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with a resounding 5 wicket win in the 2nd ODI at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

It was Evin Lewis and Shai Hope that once again put the hosts in the driving seat with a 192-run stand for the 1st wicket, more or less sealing the deal for the Windies, before Sri Lanka mounted a mini-fightback, reducing them to 212/3 and then 249/5. However, the win was never really in doubt with Nicholas Pooran at the crease and the southpaw ultimately made easy work.

It could be said that Sri Lanka lost the game thanks to both powerplays in each respective innings, losing 3 wickets up top after being put into bat and then being unable to make a breakthrough of their own as Hope and Lewis got going.

Danushka Gunathilaka (96) looked in sublime form with the bat and managed to rescue the innings alongside Dinesh Chandimal (71) as the pair put on 100 runs for the 4th wicket. Sri Lanka came across familiar troubles with both bat and ball, with the middle order and death bowling their biggest concerns.

Wanindu Hasaranga (47) added some spark to the latter part of the innings, however could not cause too many problems with the ball. The bowling was made to look toothless once again, but 2 wickets apiece to Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep gave Sri Lanka some hope going into the last 3 overs. Pradeep conceded 18 in the 48th over and from that point, it was nearly impossible for the Windies to lose.
