Today (23rd April) Sri Lankan lasses faced a do or die battle against fancied Chinese Taipei outfit. Formidable oppositions who are 30 places ahead (CTP – 42, SL – 72) in the world rankings easily beat Sri Lanka by shattering their hopes of a final.

Chinese Taipei scored the first goal in no time following a penalty corner (1Q 1 – 0). After a couple of minutes in the 2nd quarter Eastern Asian ladies spotted a weakness in the Sri Lankan defence and went through for their second score (HT 2 – 0).

In the 3rd quarter the Chinese Taipei side managed to score twice while Sri Lankan ladies enjoyed their only success of the match through a penalty corner (3Q 4 – 1). Nipuni Fernando scored the only goal for Sri Lanka following her success against Uzbeks.

In the final seconds of the encounter Taipei lasses put the icing on the cake as they scored their 5th goal which came off a poor ball control by a Sri Lankan left back. (Full Time CTP 5 – 1 SL).
