Sri Lanka Karate’s prospects of advancing within the WKF rankings seem promising as junior national karateka earn higher rankings.

These rankings are awarded by the WKF on a points system based evaluation taking into consideration points earned by each participant under their respective event category. Points are awarded based on their performance at various international premier Karate championships.

The highest rank for the country comes from youngster Tharushi Sewmini who was ranked 35th by the WKF under the Cadet – Kata (Female) category with an aggregate of 75 points to which points from her 5th place ranking at the 2016 Asian Karate Championship were added.

K Suraweera comes in second place being ranked 57th under the Under 21 – Kumite (Female) 50+ kg category. Her position was backed by points for winning a match at the Asian Championship in 2016 along with her participation at the World Karate Championship in 2015.

Meanwhile the 3rd highest rank for Sri Lanka comes through W Uthpala being ranked 62nd in the Under 21 – Kumite (Female) -50Kg category, with her points coming from placing 7th at the 2016 Asian Championship.

Moreover, in the Under 21 Kumite (Male) 84+ Kg category Malitha Heemasha was ranked 63rd while Senura Anjana was ranked 68th under the Cadet – Kumite (Male) -63Kg category.

M Madhuhansi was ranked 73rd in the Under 21 Kata (Female) Category with her collection of points from the 2016 Asian Championship along with Thathsarani Karandeniya ranking 79th who also bagged points from the same championship in the Under 21 Kumite (Female) -55Kg category.

Also in the Under 21 age category, G Kumari was ranked 88th in the -66Kg Kumite (Female) event category with points coming from her placing 9th at the World Championship along with points from the Asian Championship.

P G Wickramarathne was ranked 90th under the Under 21 Kata (Male) category while in the -66Kg Kumite (Male) category, Ranith Chanaka was ranked 96th both of whom acquired points through the Asian Championship.

Furthermore, collecting points from the 2017 Kazakhstan Asian Championship by winning one match in the Kumite (Female) +61Kg category, Tharika Samanmali ranked 105th in the WKF Rankings.

The other notable rankings are as follows:
