Sri Lanka Under 17 Girls kicked off their Youth Olympic qualifiers in style, beating Philippines 36-7 in the first game of the Youth Olympic Asia Qualifier U17 Girls’ tournament in Dubai.

The Sri Lankan Girls made easy work of a Philippines team who lacked vision going forward. Sri Lanka scored 6 tries, in reply Philippines managed one converted try.

Sri Lanka began in dominating fashion, scoring the first try of the game in the first minute as Sachinthani Sadanika scored an unconverted try.

Sri Lanka added the gloss on a comprehensive first half display scoring four tries, securing the game. One from Sachini Bhagya and two further tries from Parami Wasanthi rounded off the first half.

Captain Umayangana Thathsarani converted two of the four tries while  Sri Lanka managed to keep the Philippines girls scoreless.

Sri Lanka took less than three minutes to get into the second half through a score from Chamodhya Madumali. She converted her try, stretching the Lankan lead further.

Diana Cosare scored a converted try five minutes into the second half as she pounced during a lapse of concentration from the Lankan Girls.

Chamodhya Madumali added the icing on the cake as she scored past the hooter to put Philippines out of their misery and handing Sri Lanka a comprehensive 29-point win.
