Sri Lanka women’s national tennis team will take part in this year’s Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II this year, organised by the ITF and sponsored by BNP Paribas.
The event will be held on the hard courts of the SAAP Tennis Complex, LB Stadium, Fateh Maidan, Bashherbagh, Hyderabad, India, in the week commencing April 13.
Participating nations:
India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Oman, Pacific Oceania (region), Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Turkmenistan.
Tie Format:
* There will be three pools consisting three nations each and another pool consisting four nations. (Pool A, B, C, and D respectively). Firstly there will be a round-robin among nations in these four Pools.
* Then there will be two play-offs. In the first play-off: A1 vs C1, B1 vs D1, A2 vs C2, B2 vs D2, A3 vs C3, and B3 vs D3 (the last nation in the four-nation Pool D will not play in the play-offs)
* In the second play-off, the winning nations of A1 vs C1 and B1 vs D1 will play against each other to determine which nation will advance to the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I next year.
The Tournament Referee representing the ITF will be Andrey Kornilov of Uzbekistan. The Fed Cup is the women’s version of the Davis Cup. It is considered the world cup of international women’s tennis.
