The Sri Lankan Davis Cup team left to Thailand last weekend to participate in the Davis Cup tie that will take place on the 4th, 5th & 6th of March.

Sri Lanka, who are currently in the Asia Oceania Group II, will meet Thailand, who were relegated from the top division after their loss to Pakistan, in an attempt to make their way to the top tier. This clash will be crucial for Sri Lanka after their successful stint at the South Asian Games where the entire Davis Cup team ended up winning bronze.

The veteran Harshana Godamanne who will be playing his 14th consecutive year in the tournament since 2002, will spearhead the Sri Lankan Davis Cup team. Having a 74% win ratio in all of the games he has played, Godamanne will look at going forward to convert his success story into wins at Thailand. Alongside Godamanne will be the defending national champion Dineshkanthan Thangarajah, Sharmal Dissanayaka & Yasitha De Silva.

The team is currently in Thailand engaging in their final preparations under their coach Dominic Utzinger over the next few days. Sri Lanka are currently placed 63rd in the international Davis Cup rankings with 117.81 points behind Turkey. Their opponents, Thailand has a ranking of 46 with 393.75 points. A win in Thailand will definitely lift the Lankans to within the top 50.
