Sri Lanka have confirmed their Playing XI for the opening ODI against West Indies, which is scheduled to get underway tonight at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The biggest talking point surrounding the team selection is the decision to promote Kamindu Mendis to the top of the order. The versatile left-hander is set to partner Pathum Nissanka at the top, with the team management opting against specialist opener Kamil Mishara for the series opener.

Janith Liyanage and Milan Rathnayake, both seaming all-rounders expected to feature in the playing XI. The presence of two seam-bowling all-rounders is expected to provide additional flexibility in Caribbean conditions.

In the pace department, Dushmantha Chameera and Asitha Fernando will spearhead the attack. As has been the case in recent years, Sri Lanka’s spin department will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana.
