Sri Lanka bring home Judo medals

Sri Lanka clinched six medals at the 7th Judo championship which was held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 10 April 2014 to 13 April 2014. The medals included 2 silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.

Six South Asian countries including Sri Lanka India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan participated in this Judo Championship which held for the 7th consecutive year 

Among the 59 Judokas from the South Asian countries, Madushanka Thenedegara representing the Sri Lanka Army, clinched the silver medal of the Men’s 60kg while Hewa Ambepitiya Damayanthi of Sri Lanka Air Force became the runner up at the women’s over 78kg giving Sunita Bohara who clinched the gold medal a good fight. 

Three bronze medals were clinched by the judokas of Sri Lanka Airforce while one bronze medal was clinched by A.M.S.T. Wimalasena of Sri Lanka Army. 

The overall result of the above championship are as follows. 

SILVER MEDALS

 – 60 kg : T.G.R. Madusanka          ( Army)

 + 78 kg : H.A.N. Damayanthi        ( Air Force) 

BRONZE MEDALS

 – 52 kg : R.A.I.P. Wickramasinghe   ( Air Force)

 – 70 kg : S. Bandaramenike             ( Air Force)

 – 100 kg : W.G.U.R. Jayawardana    ( Air Force)

 + 100 kg : A.M.S.T. Wimalasena     (Army)
