Minister of Sports Harin Fernando has issued a gazette notification suspending the registrations of the Sri Lanka Cycling, Rugby, Automobile and Netball federations.
With the suspension of these federations, Director General of Department of Sports Development Professor Shemal Fernando has been appointed as the competent authority to oversee the administration and activities of these sports bodies.

The specific reasons for the suspension haven’t been disclosed in the gazette notification. Speaking to Daily Mirror, Professor Fernando has said that he would make arrangements to conduct the elections of the four sports bodies at the earliest.
