Sports Journalists step in to help battle COVID-19

While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought the entire world to its knees, the Professionals Sport Journalists Association of Sri Lanka (PSJASL) with the support of Desamannaya DR H.T.R.Priyantha has come forward to provide much needed essential sanitary items for some of the frontline medical professionals and officers of the Special Task Force (STF) of Sri Lanka Police. 

The Sports Hostel of the Ministry of Sports is currently occupied by 500 STF officers who are manning the frontline in the fight against the deadly virus. The PSJASL at the advice and coordination of the secretary to the Ministry of Sports, Mr. K D Ruwanchandra, donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, 2000 masks, 20L of hand sanitizer and 1000 hand wash soap bars. 

President of the PSJASL Karuppiah Ramakrishnan and secretary Chathuka Divashan  handed over the donations to K.D.Ruwanchandra secretary, Ministry of Sports who passed it on to the members of the Colombo Division STF. 

Sharing his thoughts, Desamannaya Dr H.T.R.Priyantha, who eagerly came forward as a willing sponsor for this worthy cause stated that “This humble contribution for the fight against the pandemic may be a drop in the ocean but at this critical period we all should come forward and help in whatever way we can”

Secretary to the Minister of Sports, Mr K D Ruwanchandra profusely thanked the membership of the PSJASL for donating much needed sanitary supplies for the Colombo Division STF personnel.

Karuppiah Ramakrishnan – President of the PSJASL added that “With the threat due to the pandemic looming large over the entire globe, what worries us is the safety of our health and security forces who are the frontline warriors in this fight” while Chathuka Divashana- Secretary of PSJASL showed our gratitude for the hard work put in by the front liners adding that “We at the PSJASL salute these doctors, nurses and other health care workers who have been working selflessly and relentlessly even putting their lives at risk.” 

PSJASL, the sole association in the country formed to facilitate the welfare and wellbeing of all the professional sports journalists of the country is proud to have stepped in this time of need and will be looking to assist in whatever way possible in the future.
