Spain to host World Karate Championship 2018

The Karate arena’s biggest and most anticipated event, the 24th World Karate Federation World Championships will be held in Madrid (Spain) from the 05th – 11th of November 2018 at the WiZink Sports Center, Madrid.

The World Championships are held every two years. However, this is the first ever championship that is being directly organised by the World Karate Federation with the support of the Spanish Karate Federation and the cooperation of the Karate Federation of the Madrid region. This is fixture is of paramount importance to the karateka as this will be the highest points awarding event that affects the overall points that decides each premier karateka’s rankings in the World Karate Federation. Adding to this is the fact that the event is included in the qualification process to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 with the massive breakthrough Karate as a sport made by being recognized to be featured as an event at the Olympics. Therefore, this World Championship will be a nail-biter of an event as this will decide which karatekas qualify to fight at the Olympics.

The participation record of 1049 athletes and 110 countries in the last edition of the World Championships in 2016 will be exceeded in Madrid without any doubt. Therefore, the competition will have one more day of elimination rounds.

Spain is not a stranger to the Karate World Championship as the country has hosted previous World Championships in 1980, 1992 and 2002.
