Sri Lanka to participate in inaugural South Asian U16 Netball Championship.
Sri Lanka will be among six teams participating at the inaugural South Asian Under 16 Netball Championship, organized by the Nepal Netball Association.

The tournament, organized for the very first time, will also feature India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and hosts Nepal and will be held from the 18th – 22nd of October at the Nepali Army Sports Complex in Kathmandu.
Goal attack cum shooter Nethmi Wijenayake of Musaeus College has been named as captain of the squad of 12, which features heavy representation from both Kalutara and Kurunegala.
In all, there are three players from Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala as well as 2 each from Musaeus College, Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya as well as Holy Family Convent, Kalutara. 1 each from Girls’ High School, Kandy, Presbyterian Girls’ School Dehiwala and Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala make up the squad of 12.
The team will be coached by Amalka Gunathilake, head coach of Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala, a school which has experienced unprecedented success in the schools arena over the past couple of decades.

Speaking to ThePapare.com, Gunathilake said;
“We did the selections very recently, but we were able to get in a few good practice sessions in the past few days. Our expectation is to finish the tournament as Champions. In terms of key players, the shooter, Nethmi (Wijenayake) is someone we will rely on. In the centre court, we will work around Natasha (Dias).”
The squad is set to leave the island for Nepal later tonight (16th) along with Gunathilake and Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who will be officiating at the tournament.
