South Africa Emerging take honours on day one

David White’s superb unbeaten century was the highlight from the 1st day of the second four-day game between South Africa Emerging Players and Sri Lanka A Emerging players which began at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Thursday.

Sri Lanka A Emerging skipper Rumesh Buddika won the toss and invited the young Proteas to have a bat first and it paid rewards as 20 year old left arm quick Binura Fernando, fresh from his international debut, picked up 2 early wickets to have the South Africans reeling at 2/12 in the 5th over of the day. 

It was then that the right handed opener David White took control as he built substantial partnerships with the batters that followed with the best being a partnership of 87 for the 4th wicket with the skipper H Klaasen who made a patient knock of 40 runs. 

He was also involved in another unbroken partnership of 82 runs for the 6th wickets with Fortuin who ended the day on an unbeaten 40 runs. David White ended the day on an unbeaten 128 off 252 balls which included 11 hits to the rope and 1 over it.

The Sri Lankan bowlers toiled hard for wickets with minimum success as the day went on and only Amila Aponso was successful capturing 3 wickets delivering 32 overs of his left-arm spin.
