The hosts take the 2-match four-day series 1-0, against South Africa ‘A’ after the 2nd four-day game ended in a draw today (22nd June), at P. Sara Stadium in Colombo.
Overnight batters, Minod Bhanuka and Pasindu Sooriyabandara continued from where they left off yesterday as both of them went on to register their respective hundreds this morning. Lizaad Williams has broken that massive partnership of 254 by dismissing Bhanuka for a classical 130-run knock which came off 207 balls with 10 fours & 5 sixes.
Meantime, Sri Lanka ‘A’ has decided to declare their innings on 327/3 & set a target of 324 for the Proteas to level the series. Sooriyabandara played such an exceptional knock on his Sri Lanka ‘A’ debut and remained unbeaten on 113 off 147 deliveries which consisted of 12 fours & 2 sixes.
However, when the match ended in a draw, the visitors managed to get only 156 runs after losing 4 wickets. Matthew Breetzke was their top scorer with 38 runs while skipper Tony De Zorzi scored 35. For Sri Lanka ‘A’ Praveen Jayawickrama stood up with a couple of wickets and Ramesh Mendis also picked up one.
In the end, the Islanders sealed the 2-match series after winning the first game by a comprehensive margin of 160. Earlier, the visitors managed to beat Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the 3-match unofficial ODI series 2-1 as well.
