It was an exchange of pure power as both pugilists delivered well timed jabs and weren’t afraid to go for the glorified hard blows.

Many eyes were on the Light Fly (49kg) weight category finals bout against MM Prabashwara of SLIMLINEA –A and PGE Madushan of the Sri Lankan AIR FORCE – A. Both pugilists had earned a name for themselves in the meet and Prabashwara was one favored to win honors at the meet and he didn’t disappoint the pundits who had believed so. He beat his counterpart in straight rounds to win gold in the light fly weight category.

In the women’s category 48 kg Nadeeja Pushpakumarai of THURULIE boxing club boxed against AD Kodithuwakku of MAS SOUTHERN – A. kodithuwakku was too one of the favorites in the meet. She won the gold medal proving herself and the predictions. Her upper cuts were masterful and well-timed while her defense when needed was stone strong and solid.

It was a rather disappointing bout in the 64 kg weight category against KALU Kawshalya of the AIR FORCE – A and Niranjala Senanayake of CASUALINE. The spectators looked forward to a much better and exciting bout but Niranjala simply took away all chances from Kawshalya through a display of boxing truly worth mentioning.
