SLC provides 24 Schools with Turf covers

The distribution ceremony of 24 Turf covers to Division1 & 2 cricket playing Schools was held at Sri Lanka Cricket premise recently, with the participation of the representatives of the beneficiary schools. 

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Sidath Wettimuny, Secretary Schools Cricket Association Mr.Dilshan de Silva, Cheif Executive Officer SLC Ashley de Silva, Head of Cricket Operations SLC Carlton Bernardus were present to distribute the Turf Covers to the schools nominated by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Speaking at the event Chairman SLC Sidath Wettimuny said “Due to non availability of Turf pitch covers, most of the Under 19 cricket matches were affected during the rainy season in the past. No sooner SLSCA & SLC were informed of the need for pitch covers, SLC took immediate action to solve the problem by procuring pitch covers which we felt that was a long-felt need that will help lift the standard of school cricket in Sri Lanka”.

The turf wickets will be a consolation for the teams who face issues in finding finances in maintaining the premises. The pitch covers are initially given out to the top division teams and the list of schools that received the pitch covers are as follows:

10. DS Senanayake Collage, Colombo

11. Dharmapala Collage, Pannipitiya

12. De Mazanode Collage, Kandana

13. St. Benadict Collage, Kotahena

14. Mahinda Collage, Galle

15. Trinity College, Kandy

16. St. Anthony’s Collage, Kandy
