92

Tamil Union came from behind with a splendid performance to snatch a spectacular 76 runs outright victory over Bloomfield in the Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which concluded at Reid Avenue today.

Tamil Union after conceding first innings points took a bold decision and went on to declare their second innings at 264 for 9 wickets while leaving their opponents a target of 258 runs.

However Bloomfield completely lost their way during the run chase and folded up for a disappointing 181 runs from 57.5 overs with Tillekeratne Sampath and Jeevan Mendis sharing nine wickets between them.

Earlier Tamil Union closed their second innings at 264 for 9 wickets with opening batsman Ashen Silva and all rounder Nisala Tharaka compiling fighting half centuries.

Chilaw Marians v Panadura

Chilaw Marians CC also produced a similar performance as they had the credit of pulling off a thrilling three wicket outright victory over Panadura SC in their Premier League cricket encounter worked off at the Panadura Esplanade today.

The Chilaw Marians CC bowlers spearheaded by Upul Indrasiri produced a magnificent performance to skittle out their opponents for a paltry 98 runs in the second innings giving them a victory target of 175 runs.

However Chilaw Marians CC nearly threw away this great opportunity as they succumbed under pressure losing wickets at regular intervals against the spin of Gayan Sirisoma who snapped up a five wicket haul for Panadura SC.

But Chilaw Marians CC managed to squeeze through and reach their target with the help of their late order batsmen with wicket keeper batsman Vidura Adhikari batting at number seven scoring an unbeaten 39 runs with the aid of six boundaries.

Moors v CCC

Meanwhile Moors Sports Club staged a superb fight back to pull off a five wicket outright victory over the CCC in their Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Crescent today.

CCC who enjoyed a close first innings lead over their opponents produced one of their worst batting performances in the recent past as they were bundled out for a mere 91 runs in their second attempt against some accurate bowling.

Spinner Vimukthi Perera excelled with a three wicket haul while Dilhara Lokuhettige and Janaka Gunaratne snapped up two wickets each to cause CCC’s downfall.

Moors Sports Club who were left with a victory target of 112 runs did not waste any time as they raced away in style to score 112 for 5 from just 15.5 overs with Chaturanga de Silva smashing an unbeaten 44 from just 23 deliveries studded with two sixes and six boundaries.

Army v Badureliya

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club completed a resounding innings and 138 runs outright victory over Badureliya CC in their Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maggona today.

Badureliya CC who were trailing by a huge 315 runs on the first innings never looked like saving the game as they were bowled out for a modest 177 runs in the second innings with Seekuge Prasanna returning outstanding figures of four wickets for 71 runs.

NCC v Colts

In contrast the NCC and Colts CC figured in a high scoring draw in their Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Place today.

Colts CC of course had the satisfaction of taking first innings points after they amassed a massive 401 runs in reply to NCC’s total of 332 all out.

After Kusal Janith Perera had plundered a swashbuckling century on the second day, Akila Dananjaya and Kanishka Elvitigala further frustrated the opposition by stroking two superb half centuries.

NCC then used the second innings for some batting practices while scoring 232 runs for 6 wickets with middle order batsman Pawan Wickremasinghe missing out a hundred by just five runs.
