SLC Premier cricket 2nd day round up – Jehan complets an epic unbeaten double century

NCC were just three wickets away from pulling off a resounding outright victory after another dominant second day in their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League inter club cricket tournament match against Badureliya SC which continued at the Surrey ground in Maggona today. 

Badureliya SC following on after having conceded a huge first innings deficit of 339 runs figured in another sensational collapse as they struggled to reach 95 for 7 wickets in their second innings still trailing by a massive 244 runs. 

NCC’s spin combination of Tharindu Kaushal and Sohan Boralessa produced a repeat performance and simply ran through the Badureliya SC batting line up while capturing three wickets each in the second innings. 

Earlier NCC went on to pile up a commanding 513 for 5 wickets in their first innings with overnight batsman Jehan Mubarak completing an epic unbeaten double century with the help of 32 boundaries. 

Meanwhile Panadura Sports Club were chasing a rare outright victory over the more fancied Ragama Cricket Club in another Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which continued at the Panadura Esplanade today. 

Panadura SC of course put up a superb fight back to snatch a close first innings lead of 21 runs mainly due to a fighting knock of 73 from all rounder Amila Wettasinghe who was ninth out after having struck eight boundaries and three sixes. 

Ragama CC were then bowled out for a modest 222 runs in their second innings with veteran spinner Gayan Sirisoma returning excellent figures of five wickets for 77 runs and supported well by Rajeewa Weerasinghe (4 for 67)

SSC were well poised to obtain first innings points after they had completed dominated the second day of their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League cricket tournament match against Bloomfield at Maitland Place today. 

After having piled up a massive 543 for 7 wickets in their first innings the home side then got their act together well on the field to restrict the opposition to 171 for 4 wickets in reply. 

The SSC also had the satisfaction of producing two centurions skipper Tharanga Paranavithana and Thilina Kandamby who were associated in a splendid 292 run partnership for the fourth wicket. 

Paranavithana hoisted two sixes and struck 20 boundaries while Kandamby had three sixes and 21 boundaries during his top score of 165 runs. 

Bloomfield in reply reached 171 for 4 wickets with middle order batsman Nipuna Karunanayake playing the sheet anchor role having struck an unbeaten 57 runs from 110 deliveries inclusive of eight boundaries.

Tamil Union had to depend on their late order batsmen to snatch a thrilling five runs first innings lead over Chilaw Marians Cricket Club in their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which continued at the P. Sara Oval today. 

Tamil Union’s number ten Chanaka Welagedera struck a valuable 33 runs and their last man Madushanka Ekanayake hit an unbeaten 27 runs with the pair putting on a crucial 67 runs for the ninth wicket as they just managed to surpass their opponents modest total of 231 runs.

Moors Sports Club produced a fine batting performance to build up a good first innings lead over Colts CC in their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League cricket tournament match which continued at Braybrooke Place today. 

Moors SC rallied around through a splendid century from Harsha Cooray to rattle up a formidable 378 runs in reply to Colts CC’s first innings total of 198 runs. 

Cooray hoisted two sixes and struck eleven boundaries during his knock of 111 runs and also put on a superb 107 runs for the fourth wicket along with Kaushalya Gajasinghe who was unfortunately dismissed for 93 runs which was studded with one six and ten boundaries.

Opener Leo Francisco hit a splendid 109 to guide Sri Lanka Army SC to a good first innings win over Sri Lanka Air Force SC in their Premier League cricket tournament match which continued at Panagoda today.

The Army SC wicket keeper batsman struck 17 boundaries and also figured in two big partnerships with Shalika Karunanayake (64) and Lakshan Edirisinghe (50 n. o) as the home team made 295 runs in reply to their opponents first innings total of 251 runs.
