Viharamahadevi, St. John’s, D.S., and Army finished as winners at the Novices Water Polo Championships 2023. The novices tournament organized by SLASU concluded today, with the participation of 18 teams in 3 age groups at the Air Force Swimming pool complex – Rathmalana.

Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda and St. John’s College, Nugegoda grabbed the Under 16 Girls’ and Boys’ championships, respectively. Kehansa Weerasinghe of Viharamahadevi and Siyath Rupasinghe of St. John’s were named the most valuable players in the Under 16 age group. Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya finished as runners-up in the Girls’ category, while S. Thomas’ finished 2nd in the Boys’.

Viharamahadevi BV took their success to the next level, beating Gothami Balika Vidyalaya in the Girls’ U20 category as Aruni Perera (Viharamahadevi BV) emerged as the Most Valuable Player.

D.S. Senanayake College came out on top of Colombo International School in the Boys’ U20 category. Sapumal Perera of D.S. was named Most Valuable Player.

The Open category champions remained the same as last year with Sri Lanka Army’s victory against the Sri Lanka Police ‘B’ team. Both W.V.K. Jayasooriya and H.C.H. Kumara of the Sri Lanka Army were recognized as the Most Valuable Players in the category.

The next in line in the aquatic calendar is the Sri Lanka Schools Novices Aquatic Championships 2023 from the 23rd – 26th of February 2023.
