Boyagama Siri Parakum SC and Chilaw United defeated MAS Casualline SC & Vijayaba SC respectively to win the women’s and men’s U22 championship in the 2017 Dialog President’s Gold Cup held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Boyagama Siri Parakum SC beat MAS Casualline 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25 & 15-7 to win the women’s U22 championship.

In the first semi-final Casualline SC defeated Dharmapala SC 25-12 & 25-8 while Siri Parakum SC easily beat Vijayaba SC 25-6 & 25-8 in the 2nd semi-final.

The Galigamuwa Central College girls, the DSI Volleyball U17 & U19 champions, were playing as Siri Parakum SC against the much more experienced and defending champions MAS Casualline.

Siri Parakum SC took everyone by surprise as they won the opening two sets 25-20 & 25-20. However, Casualline who had two Sri Lanka U23 players in Anurisha Chathuni and Thakshila Madurangi, recovered to win the next two enthralling sets 22-25 & 22-25 to send the game into a deciding 5th set.


Siri Parakum SC made amends for their lapses in the earlier sets, racing to a 15-7 win and the championship.

The 3rd place match was a close encounter where Vijayaba SC, Hungama defeated Dharmapala SC, Eheliyagoda in a thrilling 25-23 & 25-23.

Chilaw United v Vijayaba SC (U22 Men’s Final)

Chilaw United beat Vijayaba SC, Hungama 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 to win the men’s U22 championship.

Vijayaba SC defeated Rajasinghe SC in 4 sets in the 1st semi-final. Vijayaba SC won the 1st two sets 25-23 & 25-21. Rajasinghe SC came back to win the 3rd 19-25 but Vijayaba reversed the score-line 25-19 to win the 4th set and the match.

Chilaw United made a remarkable recovery as they came from 2 sets down to win 3-2 against last year’s champions Davisamara SC in the 2nd semi-final, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 & 15-11.

Chilaw United took complete charge of the 1st two sets winning them 25-18 & 25-19. Vijayaba SC gave a good fight in the 3rd set but Chilaw United were too good as they won it 25-22.

Davisamara SC won 3rd place after Rajasinghe SC gave a walk-over in the play-off.
