Shane Watson: Australia all-rounder ‘shaken’ by bouncer blow

Australia’s Shane Watson has been left “shaken” after he sustained a blow to the head from a bouncer during training for the Boxing Day Test with India.

The all-rounder’s helmet was struck by a ball from fast bowler James Pattinson in the Melbourne Cricket Ground nets.

Watson, 33, was assessed by doctors and a Cricket Australia spokesperson said he was “shaken but otherwise okay.”

Australia batsman Phillip Hughes died last month after he was struck on the neck by a ball during a domestic match.

Watson was playing in the same game at the Sydney Cricket Ground, turning out for opponents New South Wales.

Pattinson’s short ball floored Watson as he landed on his backside before slowly removing his helmet and walking out of the nets.

Mitchell Starc also limped out of the net session ahead of the third Test on Friday after he was struck on the knee by a ball.

Australia lead the four-match series with India 2-0.
